For all of you who have, or are still, plying the oceans and waterways of the world.
Fair winds and following seas, and thank you.
There’s 50/49 days from the very popular drinking too much alcohol excuse St Patrick’s Day to the other popular drinking too much alcohol excuse holiday of Cinco de Mayo. The later was popularized by bars, restaurants & breweries & those same places make a lot of bank off of St Patrick’s Day too. There’s another same 50/51 days from Cinco de Mayo to June 25th, the Day of the Seafarer? Just saying..
I am very familiar with “Hallmark Holidays”. Are you saying this was developed by bar owners, to give folks an excuse to drink?
At my age, waking up on the green side of the grass is reason enough to celebrate and drink.
Absolutely not. I’m proposing that it should be to bring attention to our profession.
Quote below from an article about why & how Cinco de Mayo became a semi-popular US holiday. Only in our wildest dreams could June 25th, the International Day of The Seafarer, could do the same. Also a link how Congress followed suit after Anheuser-Busch & Miller’s marketing scheme.
“Anheuser-Busch and Miller established Hispanic marketing divisions and began sponsoring Cinco de Mayo events to tap into the Latino beer market. Coors invested over $60 million in marketing to Latino consumers during the 1980s”
