Damen Shipyards received a 5.3 billion dollar order from the German navy

The Dutch shipbuilder Damen Shipyards have received a billion dollar order from the German navy. The company is going to build four frigates with a value of 5.3 billion euros. It is the largest German naval order ever. They won the contract over a German consortium. The German parliament still has to agree with the decision of the German defense ministry.

Sources told German media that 70 percent of the production must take place in Germany at partner Blohm + Voss in Hamburg so this deal only contributes partly to the employment opportunities in the Dutch shipbuilding industry.
