Cruise ship news

Le Commandant Charcot reached the North Pole earlier today.

Not bad for a cruise ship.

Ulstein design in a row in China. Here you can see a snapshot of the Cruise ships “Sylvia Earle”, “Ocean Victory” and “Ocean Explorer” moored at the shipyard of China Merchants Heavy Industry (CMHI) in China. The ships are of Ulstein CX103 design - and one sees that they all have the bow shape Ulstein X-Bow. PHOTO: ULSTEIN GROUP

The Fridtjof Nansen has been laid up in Ålesund for several months, only interrupted by a trip to the Arctic for a formal naming ceremony:

She is now back here in Ålesund, awaiting her first trip on the new cruises along the Norwegian coast originating in Hamburg:

I didn’t know they made high heeled safety boots. The comment was not meant to be sexist but likely may sound that way. It maybe okay for the photo op but does she really wear that sort of thing in a shipyard? That point aside
good on her.

Is this any more or less “sexist” than high heeled safety boots?

If the picture is being used to introduce her as Captain, I would view it as sexist. An American captain aboard an international cruise ship is a rarity in itself.

I did a quick search of photos and it appears she wears those shoes aboard ship.

Oh what a beauty:

She’ll be cruising the Great Lakes soon.

It is nothing but marketing. Everyone knows the captain of a cruise ship is just a politician and window dressing. The staff captain, hotel manager and CE run the ship

In looking at her resume she has paid her dues. That said, having a cat aboard as her “baby” is a bit over the top.

In the cruise business its all about optics and publicity. She is very likely competent.

I sailed with a Captain that brought his cat aboard, on a suggestion from his Doctor to help manage his blood pressure. Before the cat, he was a miserable, unbearable *****. With the cat, he was just a ****.
