Old idea that stopped at one ship appears to get a revival:
The ship had been laid up since Covid, and was most recently docked in Edinburgh. The company plans for the 924-passenger, 24,344gt vessel to enter service in May 2024, sailing from Southampton.
Plans call for an initial three-year world cruise, available in segments as well. Ownership pricing starts at $99,999 for an inside cabin, with the ownership of the suite guaranteed for 15 years.
Retired but miss the sea? Here is your change to become a “sea gypsy” for 15 years at only USD 100K.

Cairo’s Massara shipyard floated out VIKING HATHOR, set to debut in August on the Nile River. The 82-passenger vessel will feature in Viking’s 12-day ‘Pharaohs & Pyramids’ itinerary. Egypt, with its cultural treasures and antiquities, remains at the top of the list for many Viking travelers, Viking Chairman Torstein Hagen said. VIKING HATHOR, an identical sister of 2023’s VIKING ATON and 2022’s VIKING OSIRIS, will now be moved to a nearby outfitting dock for final construction and interior build-out.The vessels sport Scandinavian interior design, a distinctive square bow and an indoor/outdoor Aquavit Terraces.

Georg. Kr. Lárusson, director general Icelandic Coastguard, said: “In the spirit of collaboration – let’s use our collective expertise and experience in the face of evolving challenges. Together we have the power to make a meaningful difference in safety.”
The premiere of a new safety video, a collaboration between the U.S Coast Guard, the Norwegian JRCC, and AECO, was also a highlight of the event.
In recognition of their efforts to enhance safety at sea, the U.S. Coast Guard presented AMVER awards to AECO members Lindblad Expeditions, Silversea Cruises, Hurtigruten Expeditions, Ponant, and Oceanwide Expeditions.
One of the highlights was the presentation of the Icelandic Coastguard on monitoring and reacting to volcanic activities on Iceland.
Bookings for the world cruise will open on April 10, with rates ranging from $91,499 to $839,999 per person. Register your interest now at rssc.com .

Hopefully not another Ponzi scheme like the recently failed “Life at Sea”…
The US-flag cruise ship fleet will be growing:
2025’s American Patriot and American Pioneer will have a more traditional bow construction and slightly deeper draft than the earlier Project Blue ships

Viking Cruise Line open IPO on NYSE:
Cruise operator Viking shares rise 9% in New York debut
“We have been able to gain ground in bad times, and COVID was not an exception,” said Torstein Hagen, Viking’s Chairman and CEO, adding that by 2022 they were back to pre-pandemic levels, which accelerated in 2023, forming the basis for the IPO.
Demand for cruise vacations has been on a record resurgence since COVID subsided and this year appears to be a banner year.
The projected market demand for luxury cruises is expected to increase approximately 75% from 2019 to 2025, according to data from Cruise Line International Association (CLIA).

Holland America Line begins long-term bio bunker fuel test on “Rotterdam” cruise ship
Ship bunkered GoodFuels MR1-100 sustainable biofuel, supplied by FincoEnergies, before leaving the Port of Rotterdam on 27 April and will sail within the Norwegian World Heritage Fjords.
The initial tests will occur on one of the ship’s four engines during cruises this month, with the potential to expand to multiple engines during the summer while operating in the Norwegian World Heritage Fjords, specifically Geirangerfjord and Nærøyfjord.
“The Norwegian Maritime Authority takes a positive view of all measures taken by the industry to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”
Holland America Line’s existing ships operate on biofuels without modifications to the engine or fuel structure. Holland America Line continues to partner with companies to find ways to reduce emissions and develop alternative fuels and technologies.
