Does anyone know of any courses in compass adjustment available anywhere? Preferably in Canada, but as far as I can tell none are offered anywhere since the deviascope exam was dropped by TC. So far the only ones I have found are one each in India, Latvia, and Australia.
I think I would have heard of something like that after 45 years in the industry in the USA. I never have.
I interact with compass adjusters fairly often. They all learned the trade from their father , etc. One adjuster learned it while in the USN.
A dying breed. Hence a good business to get into. Good luck.
Yeah I have been pretty surprised how little there is. Really kicking myself for not doing one of the ones aimed at the practical exam Chief Mates had to take when it still existed.
Compass adjusting was a 3 month course offered at the end of master unlimited. Most of us had had enough of the classroom by then and the devascope had deflated any enthusiasm we had. I managed to source a couple of heeling error instruments for a couple of guys that did the course. I had completed a course in the navy but it was not commercially recognised.
