Ernest King was a bigger ASSHOLE that Halsey ever was and cost many more lives and loss. There is the FUCKING prick who should have swung for his crime.
True statement. Read Operation Drumbeat which doesn’t portray a very good picture of Asm King - U-boats commanders were amazed on how the entire eastern seaboard was kept lit allowing them to spot ship sileuttes as they were trying to hug the coastline. Only after numerous torpedo attacks did the coastal towns start to turn off all the lights.

You know, when you read and study military leadership you find out how few senior officers are ever held to account for their actions and mistakes which costs hundreds if not thousands of lives. You also find out how they will protect their own almost to the death from outside criticism but from within their own services, are the most vicious bastards of arrogance, avarice and blind ambition! It is staggering at how well our side did in WWII with the badly flawed leadership we had at the highest levels. The absolute worst of all were fools like MacArthur, King and Montgomery. Such arrogance of power is incredible to contemplate!
A bit off the topic of this thread but since the subject of leadership failures and military history has come up, here’s a interesting incident from the past.

[QUOTE=c.captain;85947]I too am more than aware of this tale of treason by a “supposed” friendly government…

The only treason was on the the part of those in our government who did not respond swiftly and certainly to this act of war against a US naval vessel on the high seas.
