Can anyone tell me what the current Canadian trip and recency requirements are for US vessels transiting the Inside Passage?

You don’t have to be a member of the royal family to make that trip.
You don’t even have to have done it before.
(3) Subject to subsections (4) to (6), the Authority may waive compulsory pilotage in respect of a ship under 10 000 gross tons if all persons in charge of the deck watch
(a) hold certificates of competency of the proper class and category of voyage for the ship that are required by Part 2 of the Marine Personnel Regulations;
(b) have served either 150 days of service in the preceding 18 months or 365 days of service in the preceding 60 months, of which 60 days must have been served in the preceding 24 months, at sea as a person in charge of the deck watch on one or more ships on voyages in the region or engaged in the coastal trade; and
(c) have served as persons in charge of the deck watch in the compulsory pilotage area for which the waiver is sought on one or more occasions during the preceding 24 months.
andthis is the form you submit to the Pacific Pilotage Authority for acceptance

Dat leenk doan werk!
I just made the trip from Ketchikan last week. Queen Charlotte strait to Blackney pass, Discovery pass to Seymour narrows and then Rosario to Seattle. No pilot aboard and I was the only officer who had made the trip before. I’ll tell you though… there are a lot of call in points in Canadian water. Brush up before you cast off.

Damn, you make me miss the road winding through the islands of BC! That’s real sailor’s country there. I especially like Queen Charlotte Sound area. Which route did you take? Pine Island or Jennette?
Pine island is the easy mans route, it’s all about Bella Bella and Grenville!

what…Grenville? Hardly a heading change down the whole damn stretch. Bella Bella and Lama Pass is a bit more challenging. Seaforth Channel is a rock pile and there’s the famous Boat Bluff.
I’m just making sure you were not trying to take principe and the easy way out
It was Pine island this past trip. I’ve made the trip through hiekish (sp?) narrows in the past. That one was cool.
Love the run through BC and SE. My favorite side track is Desolation Sound (if you aren’t running commercial that is).
Did Juneau to Victoria then back last fall. Not too bad just pay close attention to the fast currents near Bella Bella and Blackney. Flood tides can be in excess of 6 knots depending on the moon. And yes, there are A LOT of VTS call-in points along the way. I made special waypoint notes at each one so as not to forget.
I have made the trip a couple dozen times. I just haven’t done it in awhile.
…that’s funny, i just saw a steady stream of blue n yellow boats in principe a coupla days ago…
