The Antarctic summer Navigation Season is about to start:

Australia has charted in a ship to serve their bases in Antarctica while waiting on the newbuilt Icebreaker to be delivered from Damen Shipyard:

While quite a number of vessels have already made it to Antarctica this season, there’s one that had to turn back halfway: Sevmorput is currently back in Saint Petersburg and preparing to enter a drydock for propeller repairs. Better luck next year.

COMMANDANT CHARCOT ASSISTS SIR DAVID ATTENBOROUGH IN ANTARTICA
Here some pictures of the assist operation of Ponant’s COMMANDANT CHARCOT to the 13 Mw SIR DAVID ATTENBOROUGH

The COMMANDANT CHARCOT is the new 34 Mw dual fuel icebreaker of Ponnant cruises and the Sir David Attenborough is the new British science icebreaker.

On February 9th the COMMANDANT CHARCOT was expedition cruising in Caroll bay Antarctica around 73 deg south when the Sir David Attenborough requested assistance to get further into the sea ice toward the ice shelf where they had to supply a research camp.

The COMMANDAN CHARCOT was able to cut a further 2 miles passage in increasing thick ice which took in total a couple of hours. The Sir David Attenborough thanked the COMMANDANT CHARCOT with a box full of goodies.
