Add Upon Oceans to my Near Coastal

I currently hold 1600 GT Mate of Near Coastal and will submit application for raise in grade to Oceans I have completed The approved courses have all my assessments and physical ready to go ,my question is Sea servive letter shows over1080 days of total service and over 6 months as AB with the balance of my time as OS.does the OS
time going to affect this application

What makes you think the os time would be a problem?

Just Gun Shy dealing with NMC has always been a problem in past Evaluators want to split hairs I guess I just needed to here from some one else that it shouldn’t be

Sea time is sea time. As long as you have the minimum amount of time as an officer your are good.

OK Thanks Capt.Phoenix

Ok, I must be confused. This doesn’t seem like a “Raise In Grade” but adding an “Oceans Endorsement” to an existing license. Isn’t this the case where one just needs to go take a celectial course and test and submit that to the USCG?

It’s been my understanding that some schools have the approval to do their own testing in lieu of testing at a REC but not all…

The real challenge here is the year or sea time that they require as Master, Mate or other supervisory position for the Oceans endorsement…Do you have that time? It’s different requirement between NC and Oceans…

I believe technically it is an “increase in scope”. Which costs half a much as an upgrade, by the way. And no, it idn’t just a matter of taking celestial, you need to have a year of sea time as master or mate to qualify for oceans so it needs to be evaluated.
