After six years in a canal front home in Fort Myers Beach, with first floor 8.3ft above BFL, we moved in March to a new CBC home in Mount Dora, with first floor 172.5ft elevation (and no flood zone). Total Insurance went from $6k/yr (and headed for >$10k in five years) to $854/yr.
My stress level from May through November was just bad for my health.

I tried living inland in the Texas hill country but after a year went back to a canal house on stilts in the Outer Banks and now living in Sebastian on the Atlantic coast of Florida. My bug out cabin is on the shore of a small island in Nova Scotia.
As the Water Rat said to the Mole: “There is nothing half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.”
