One of the things that bothers me whenever I see stories about Macondo is that often no mention is made of the eleven who died.
Yeah that always rankles with me .
But think of all those dicky birds.
Never mind that men didn’t return home from work
They DID get mentioned, in the second paragraph:
Maybe not as much as they should have been, but the article is about the consequences of the oil spill and the effect that had on both wildlife and people that live in the area.
I know, I’m referring to other instances where, as often as not, the deaths aren’t mentioned.
Mr Bugge
You worked in the Oil Patch.
Did you ever lose people.
I did
Got sick to death of seeing oiled dicky birds when all I could see was the charred bodies of the oilmen on Piper A
That should read off Piper A
Nothing on the scale of the Piper Alfa disaster, but on a drillship I was Capt. on in 1978-80 we lost a diver due to a silly request from the “Company man” to send divers down “to check the water depth”
This while we were in the process of running anchors and without consulting me.
The wire parted and the diving bell inside fell to the bottom, with two divers.
We managed to get both up and into decompression, but one died.
PS> Not involved in the accident, but I was Marine Advisor onboard the “DB29” before she sunk off Hainan, China in 1991:
The article linked at the top relied solely on Oceanas figures which are very derivative and designed to miss lead. Yes there was oil sludge on some beaches but they would have you believe that 1300 miles of beachfront were covered in sludge. Oil was indeed spread out over a large distance but the 50 times the size of Manhattan is dubious and if so would have been a light sheen. They site the decline in whale populations like that began the day Macando happened. It was a terrible event no doubt but to exaggerate the effects 15 years on to promote their narrative sucks. People can very easily come to their own conclusions on offshore drilling if given facts no need to embellish.
The biggest tragedy is that 11 men needlessly died but people have been twisting facts since day 1 to exploit this tragedy to suite their own ends.
