What's your most impossible dream?

I think we still get one benefit if you served in a war zone: burial with honors in a veterans cemetery.

Or did marad end this too?

Facts. American kids aspire to be Tik Tok stars while Chinese kids want to be engineers and speak better English than many American kids.

That’s the lazy ones. The brightest engineers and mathematicians go to work on Wall St or in Silicon Valley looking for quick money, Why? One reason is US industry had rather spend their profits on stock buy backs than research so the money is to be made by the financial types, not those who produce tangible goods. Has been that way for years. Why? Because since the 1980’s stock buy backs became legal without much justification. Also, beginning in the 1980’s CEO compensation became correlated with stock price. Since that time wages have gone down relative to inflation, CEO compensation has increased nearly 1000% and the US real manufacturing has been sent to lower paying countries. Unregulated capitalism will destroy itself as well as the country in which it exists, even Adam Smith recognized that 150 years ago.

I would hardly call American Capitalism unregulated but I agree with your prognosis.

Well, when there is ample evidence that the regulators have sold enough indulgences to tip the scales beyond balance, it is fairly safe to at least consider it unregulated.

Unfortunately this will not end well as history has proven.

When dark pools are allowed to exist the system is unregulated. If the general population understood how how dark pools operate they would likely be upset. A little over 12 years ago the financial system came near to collapse due to the unregulated credit rating agencies along with the unregulated gambling via synthetic CDS, MBS etc. The taxpayers had to bail out these gamblers or risk the collapse of the world economy but no one went to jail and nothing changed.

You basing this off any real evidence or just some articles you’ve read?

Just facts. Do your own research and feel free to refute with facts

It looks like that way from the outside.

The time to write a thoughtful response.

Adam Smith, (1723-1790)

Some facts are factier than others.

Yep I know I pressed the 1 key instead of the 2 key. But what is the definition of factier? Have not found that in a dictionary online or other otherwise. So, I am am sure you can forgive me for making a typo. :grinning:

Not sure about “factier” either. Maybe MAK meant “truthier.”

Perhaps

“Factier” or “Truthier”, that is a “Biggly” question.

 OK

Factier is a new word and was intentional. Since we can claim that not knowing the era in which the work we’re attempting to cite was published is a typo, I claim the right to invent words.
