2/E on a steamboat had to be the best job of all. All engine jobs are hot and dirty at times but 2nd had the most autonomy of any except chief and the paperwork was not overwhelming.
maybe a little bit lazy but certainly NOT ignorant, instead I spent my time to look into what’s going on with those shots and the results of taking them (NOT vaccines- but gene therapy treatments). I HAVE taken pretty much every other vaccine- took dozens in order to travel overseas in the late 1970’s. All those were thoroughly tested and actually worked to prevent what they were supposed to prevent and without major side effects for so many people. Even took the anthrax vaccine when working in Bahrain around 2000. And, the diseases they were meant to protect against were actually worth worrying about- unlike covid!

Never!!! Like many of us that are now senior deck officers trying to figure out what they can transition shoreside to without having to move from an inland state, one day you too will wish that maybe… just maybe you’d gone engine instead of deck. At least then you’d have options.
