Maybe the Shell/ECO team should have never been. Seems like Exxon paired with Crowley or Foss would have been a MUCH better team to take on Alaska drilling. Both have experience there, which it seems isnt important these days until somethin bad happens.

I never have wanted to see ECO get in the driver’s seat in Alaska like they are in the GoM. That turf does belong much more to Crowley or Saltchuk (Foss) to develop but Shell only knows Chouest so that is where they went and what they got. AIVIQ is massive, impressive and expensive but she ain’t the best in the world. I say either Crowley or Foss should JV with ECO to operate their Alaska fleet, but that isn’t Gary’s way of doing business although it would be a win/win for everybody involved if he’d consider it. There are many, many mariners who have exactly the local operating knowledge and experience in those two companies to be able to do the job right and in the end, shouldn’t that be the priority here?
At the kind of money that ECO is now paying, I’d think they could easily hire as many experienced Alaska mariners as they need away from Crowley, Foss, or anyone else in the Pacific Northwest.
Or save 80% and have us tow it again

Indeed…let us not forget Western Towboat Co! The company who ate FAL’s lunch. Where do you guys stand now in number of boats and HP on the West Coast and Alaska with companies like Sause and Kirby? Gotta be close to #3 of all the players?

You certainly have the newest fleet on the entire coast! Well done to you and your family rshrew!

still looking forward to that beer one day to talk boats and spin seastories and other lies!
Likewise we have been slammed and I usually work everyday unless its slow enough. It will happen.

just don’t forget your ol’ uncle c.capt!
The guys at Western are top notch. Ive talked to them numerous times for passing arrangements and whatnot all throughout Alaska, from the Aleutians to the Candian Inside Passage. Always professional and courteous. Not to mention the nicest cleanest tugs plying Alaskan waters BY FAR!
Would love to work for them when I get outta here. I love sailing in Alaska.

Do you still build them in the parking lot next to your office?
Yup just started another 120’ Titan.

I’d agree, but they just don’t seem to think that way!
Maybe I will go knock on doors in La. So I can get a job in the Beaufort/Chukchi…
