I agree, and it is good to see that with the aid of easy weather routing software, mariners are going back to their roots from the days of sail. It was not a question of RL of GC back then, but what route would get you from point A to point B fastest (considering all factors like trade winds, currents, ice proximity) and with an acceptable margin of risk.
