I’m pretty sure most schools aren’t able release that information with out the students consent. Any employer that cares about that sort of thing will ask the applicant for sealed transcripts. I’ve never been asked for academic records, or even a copy of my diploma, but after a certain amount of time, your work speaks for itself.
Agree.
The consent you sign to a background check, typically includes access to academic records, criminal records, credit reports, and employment records.
Almost all of my seagoing jobs come by word of mouth, people I know, friends of friends, etc. Today, all they care about is: do I have a license, can I do the job, and can I start tomorrow. I’ve had two of these calls this week.
At midsize and up companies, even if the owner or a senior manager calls and hires you over the phone (and even if you already flew out to the boat) there will be follow up paperwork from HR that usually includes a background check.
The background checks are typically done by third-party companies (some are affiliated with the credit reporting agencies). There are companies that specialize in verification of academic records, but most do everything.
I have had a few calls from the background check people wanting explanations: How can I be working for three companies in three different cities at the same time? How come I have more than one address? How come they cannot find a certain former employer? They have never asked about school.
With an ink wet MBA and looking for a career change to an office job 30 years ago, everyone wanted my transcripts, and interviewers asked about particular courses, particular professors, fellow students, and my grades. Of course in those days there were not many good office jobs available and plenty of eager candidates.
Maybe companies today are so desperate to fill office jobs that they’ll hire anyone with a pulse and an online MBA from Joe’s Career College in Rooster Run, Kentucky. Maybe school quality, residential vs online, course selection, grades and academic honors don’t matter anymore. I doubt that, but I wish you all happiness and prosperity with whatever path you choose to take.
I don’t know, but would estimate about a year, if they are 6-8 hour days. For my MS degree I went to class 6 hours a day, 4 days a week and it took 6 months (over a 1 year period). MBA takes about 40 credits and general rule is 1 credit is 15 hours of class time.
I went 4 days (every other Friday and Saturday) full days(8hrs), a month on average, it took 18 months. And a top 10 or 20 school, depending on what list you look at.
