They don’t throw boxes as much anymore. It’s almost all palletized now. I got friend sails for them and I remember him telling me that last year. I can’t remember the reason they stopped. Maybe ill go walk over coastal dock and ask him here in dutch ha
I use to see the ALASKA STANDARD often.
SEA TRADER was one of the half dozen or so Ocean Marine Services anchor boats (can’t remember the name). She was 499 tons and inspected as an OSV. John ? ? ? (I can picture him) was the captain for a long time at Ocean Marine Services, maybe someone else (they seemed to be hanging around in Dutch a lot, but I cannot remember why), then finally at Northland. Jim Hagen bought her, Northland kept her inspected, and they tried shuttling containers with her, including some trips to Japan. I don’t think she could carry enough containers to make it worthwhile and fuel cost at them alive. From the photo, she has obviously been lengthened out by about 100 feet ( and sponsoned ? ? ?).
Funny she is being mentioned I snapped this pic week ago. She was doing some pass/pass over at northland in Dutch.

If the cargo was palatalized then the job would be a little less rugged. The risk with throwing the boxes around was repetitive-type injuries. Still probably long hours on deck with forklifts and running the gear.
just curious, what are accommodations like on these ships? What is a day like once underway? So if I do 90 12 hour days doesn’t that count for 135 days for seatime?? Is there any internet or anything like that or are you just MIA for a great deal of time. I went ahead and sent an application.

Underway is on the bridge at night and doing maintenance during the day. Accommodations are spartan…you’ll share a room and use a public toilet. There is email available but no internet.
No you do not get day and a half if you not a 12hour watchkeeper. Since you are not a RFPNW you’re not a watchkeeper…yet.

Just take the job, if you are lucky enough to have it offered. Don’t sweat the little stuff.
