Medical hold up

I already did a soft search but came up a little empty handed. Was seeing if anyone perhaps wound up with the same issue I had and had a good outcome.

I was contacted and told that I was that found unfit for hire because of a silly heart murmur, something I’ve had since I was born. Through the years I’ve had a number of EKGs from doctors just wanting to make sure it wasn’t life threatening, which it’s always been noted ‘Oh, it’s minor, most people have one, no worries.’. While, yeah, I have no issue with it, and I even run 2 miles about three times a week and my heart hasn’t exploded on me, so I guess it’s true. But that’s just my word and experience. It’s all up to MSC doctors.

Does anyone else have a heart murmur that got through the annoyance? Or should I just give up the prospect of going forward?

The rep that called said to make a doc appointment to get it looked at, but if there’s no chance I don’t want to waste the time and money ya know?

If they suggested going to a specialist id say go for it. If your specialist says your in good health maybe they’ll hire you. Did they completely say they’re not going to hire you or just that they want you to follow up to see if you’re ok.

She told me just to go get it ‘looked at’ and let them know that I made an appointment. She said my information will remain as is until ‘the problem is resolved’ and to keep in touch. Which by that I would assume so. Either that or there’s some secret medical treatment that cures heart murmurs that I don’t know about.

It’s just frustrating as hell, been waiting for a while and just REALLY want to move forward.

Resolved could easily mean that you’ve gotten a doctor’s note that says your heart murmur will pose no problems whatsoever. If you were told to keep in touch then that may well be the case, if they had no intention of hiring you with this condition I would think they would have said something different.

Their obviously interested in hiring you. Get it checked out and get the job!

I had a Heart Murmur since Birth. When I was 17, it kept me from being able to Enlist in the Service. When I was 16, I had a Heart Cath done and it was deemed Clinically Insignificant. By the time I was 24, they had a hard time hearing it and most likely would never find it unless I told them.

So, if you see a Doctor try and get them to use the Term Clinically Insignificant as that will be your best chance to get them to overlook it.

Good Luck, I hope you can get it worked out.

Ask them what they will take as far as documentation so you don’t end up getting a lot of unnecessary tests. Do they want you to wear a Holter monitor, or get a Doppler ultrasound? etc.

We have a similar physical- we get an EKG too- and if an abnormality is found that isn’t too too terrible they send you off to your doctor for evaluation.

I had the same thing years ago. Went to a heart specialist who signed me off after a run on the treadmill. If you are fit you should do the same and you should be fine.

Update for anyone that was curious-

It was nothing to worry about! I went to my doctor, without scheduling anything, to talk with her about what she thought I would need. She was confused since I don’t have any record really of a murmur in the past like, … I can’t even remember honestly. It’s been unnoticeable for years now, I just put down that I’ve HAD a history.

But she did a EKG anyways (formality, and so kindly free) and typed up a nice lengthy letter for me to fax to the medical department.

Faxed it Monday. Tuesday I was declared fit-for-hire!

Hate to prolong this thread …BUT, I was reading the medical reasons for disqualification on MSC site and it said that Gastric Reflux Disease is cause for disqualification??? why??? who nowadays doesn’t have some reflux!!! Anyone know if this is really true.
And anyone know what they do with people who have G6PD Deficiency???(people who cannot take anti-malarial drugs)?? ty

I went through the same thing but still waiting for them to call me back saying I fit for hire. I faxed the paper work last week and haven’t herd from anyone ? Wonder if they are backed up on paper work at there medical offices.

They’re about three weeks behind on paperwork when I talked to them a few weeks ago. Best thing is just call them- both medical and the support center. Things will move much faster than waiting for them to get a hold of you, trust me.
