Yes there are some fancy stuff that throws lines and may even be approved to replace the traditional rocket type, but for day to day mooring purposes, or to pass a messenger to a AHT/AHTS from the deck of a Semisub on transit draft I think the Japanese model is fine, cheap and efficient, even in an emergency. To throw a heaving line the other way, from the tug to the deck of a very large ship/rig would take a big man with skills. Maybe a market for something like this in the US?? (Free business idea) PS\> Don’t know if it need to be USCG approved though. ---

And you dont have to stand there with your dick in your hand and explain to the CG why the home made line thrower injured a crew member or someone else. ---
