Because 2 is an even number!

Or redraw your sketch with the same dumping angle, but with only one discharge opening…
…what will be the resulting, necessary draught of the ship?

Redundancy? They can clog and belts break.

I think it can avoid the block effectively.

Dual belts…most Lake ships are single belt but some are dual or even 3 belt systems. The issue becomes more gates/rollers/therefore PMs.

Angle of repose. Think about it.

Would you explain it？ Thanks！

granular cargoes have different flow properties. Those that flow easily will have a low angle of repose, that is they will make a big, flat pile when you dump them. Those that flow with more difficulty will have a high angle of repose, a narrow, high pile. So if you have only one belt, the angle of the bottom will be less, and cargoes will not shed into the belt. Or you will have the same angle, and waste volume that could be used for cargo.

re: reprose, it’s in a far side comic, that’s where one learns things like this!
