The 1911 built D/S Hestmanden survived two world wars, the first as neutral a and the secon in allied service under Northraships management.
She has now done her first trip unassisted by tug since 1964:

Painted in the gray she sported during WWII and flying the Northaships flag.

One more video from the same trip:

The Wikipedia page for Hestmanden FYI:

> **[SS Hestmanden](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS_Hestmanden)**
>
> SS Hestmanden is a Norwegian steamer which sailed in foreign trade during both World War I and World War II, and the only preserved and remaining cargo ship that has sailed in convoys during both world wars. As the only remaining in the Nortraship's fleet, it represents a central part of Norway's war history and maritime history and is a very important protection object. Hestmanden is considered perhaps the most valuable veteran vessel of Norway.
> Hestmanden was built in Laksevåg for the Vesteraa...

If anybody is interested in taking over a vintage tug as a preservation project they better hurry:

> **[Plan approved to sink the Lumberman, Juneau’s troublesome tug - Alaska Public...](https://www.alaskapublic.org/2020/10/28/plan-approved-to-sink-the-lumberman-juneaus-troublesome-tug/)**
>
> The World War II-vintage tugboat has been a fixture on Gastineau Channel and became a jurisdictional tug-of-war between city, state and Coast Guard officials after it broke its anchor line on state tidelands more than two years ago.

> Ever since she was delivered from Aker’s mechanical workshop in March 1964, MS Lofoten has sailed in Hurtigruten’s scheduled traffic. After crossing the Arctic Circle around 3,500 times and traveling a distance equivalent to more than 200 times around the equator, the ship has now sailed its last round trip on a route between Bergen and Kirkenes.

A visit on board M/S Lofoten with one of fans, March 2013:

The RMS QUEEN ELIZABETH pulling into New York with returning service men in 1945 after World War II was over. Most of these men went on to create families and brought their stories with them.

No, not the QEII but this one:

> **[Whatever Happened to the RMS Queen Elizabeth, Queen Mary's Lost Sister Ship?](https://owlcation.com/humanities/RMSQueenElizabeth)**
>
> Everyone knows what happened to the RMS Queen Mary. As the last surviving liner, she's a float hotel in Long Beach, California. But where is her sister, RMS Queen Elizabeth? It's a sadder story.
