She is a sailing ketch, currently the oldest (built in 1921) commissioned vessel in the Royal Canadian Navy, and also the longest serving commissioned ship (since 1952). The vessel is 102 feet in length and has a beam of 19 feet. A vintage duo seen at Kiel June 24th. Entering the fjord is Polish-flagged TANAIS, a 493 tdw coaster built in 1967 by M. Jansen as KARGIT BAGENKOP, on her way from Gdansk to Rotterdam. The museum buoy tender in the background is BUSSARD, an early product of famous Meyer shipyard at Papenburg delivered in 1905. She is the largest vessel of the Shipping Museum at Kiel, and is nicely kept operational with her traditional coal-fired steam engine.

> **Historical context and significance**
> “Nyborg” has taken part in major historical events such as the Allied invasion of Normandy during World War II and the reconstruction of Finnmark after the war. At the same time, the boat is representative of its type of vessel and its use: “A Rose” was one of several similar fishing boats from the Cochrane &sons Ltd. construction yard, and among the fishing fleet in Great Yarmouth. Also as a Danlayer and minesweeper during World War II, “A Rose”/“Siesta”/“Adelphi” was relatively typical of the vessels requisitioned by the British Navy for this. We also know little about what incidents the vessel was involved in. As a Norwegian vessel, “Nyborg” participated in a heyday for herring fishing in the 1950s. In the early years of shipping along the Norwegian coast, “Nyborg” was one of many, but as time went on there were fewer and fewer similar vessels left. When “Vagsfjell” went out of active operation in 2008, the vessel was no longer representative of the speed at which it sailed, on the contrary.

Converted from steam to motor in 1950.

As Purse Seiner in the 1950s:

Used as combined fishing vessel util 1967

As coastal freighter (until 2008):
