The Varroa mite has been detected in the biosecurity bee hives at Port Newcastle.
Australia, up to this point had been free of the mite which threatens to decimate the honey industry. It must have come in by ship. Has anyone experienced bee hives on board or on containers/cargo ?
All bee hives within 10km of the port have een ordered to e destroyed in an effort to control the outbreak.
