The spillage doesn’t always sink to the bottom, especially on the Mississippi.
In fact, there was a sediment diversion project down river from Myrtle Grove. They were diverting sediment from the River into the wetlands. They stopped the project for a while when it was discovered that pieces of pet coke and coal were found in the sediment.
I don’t remember how many drinking water intakes there are between Myrtle Grove and the diversion project.
