This Jones Act proposal is blatant protectionism. Guys that have worked in the Gulf for 20 YEARS are losing their jobs now over this knee jerk reaction. ---

This is not a knee jerk reaction, this has been an on going problem for decades. When the US sends a boat overseas the only Americans on board are the officers. All other positions are filled with local’s. When a foreign flag vessel comes to work in US waters, not one crew member is a US citizen. ---

on many of the US flag vessels that I delivered overseas the only US crew allowed to continue working onboard were the master and sometimes the C/E…that includes a delivery trip last year to Del Carmen, Mexico…IMHO foreign flag vessels allowed to continue to work in US waters should only be allowed to do so under the same consideration!! ---

I work on a foreign flagged vessel in the US, crewed both internationally & with US sailors. S. ---

I’m guessing this would mean more jobs for U.S. seafarers. ---

Its about time. Only taxpaying Americans should be allowed to work in America. However, we have let far too many foreigners take American jobs for far too long, while most other countries with high paying jobs keep Americans out. We have far too many people on welfare and unemployment who should be in jobs now held by foreigners. Canadians can pretty easily work in the US, but try working in Canada as an American. Its possible, but damned difficult. We have always had a lot of Canadians working illegally in the US, and we have 12 million illegal Mexicans working in the US. Damn few Americans can get approval to work in Canada or Mexico. America is over run with Norwegian fishermen and mariners. How many Americans are working in Norway? Damn few. American is the most generous country in the world, but we have given away far too much for too long. Its time to keep our high paying jobs that come at serious environmental risk for taxpaying Americans. ---

All you need to work in Norway is a verifiable job offer and fail to be a moron. 1.7% unemployment sees to that. You typically will need a Scandinavian language to be employed on Norwengen flag ship operating there. Elsewhere I am not so sure. ---
