This does not apply only to those working ashore, but to everybody within the maritime field, incl. mariners.
With the technology advancing at an ever increasing speed, those who refuse to update themselves will be left behind.

This article is general enough that it applies to anything. Change a few words and you could sell it to cooks, elementary school teachers or book publishers. It’s good life advice but not maritime exclusive.
