Duties & Responsibilities

Commands water vessels. Directs and coordinates activities of crew. Inspects vessel to ensure safety of crew and passengers. Monitors navigational aids. Implements policy and procedures. Maintains records of daily activities and prepares progress and personnel reports. Maintains regulatory requirements.

UNITED STATES COAST GUARD DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED. High School Diploma or equivalent. Vocational training a plus. Entry-level, 2 years minimum offshore supply vessel (OSV) experience. Knowledge of SMS shipboard procedures. Other requirements: Merchant Mariner’s Document (Z-card), 100 ton or 1600 ton masters license. DPO experience preferred. Safegulf experience helpful.

General Role Player (032)

This is a part time position in New Orleans, Louisiana. Dates of contract are April 8th - April 18th. Local personnel are preferred.

Outline of Responsibilities

• Deliver a realistic performance based on the scenario objectives for training
• Assist government organizations conduct training scenarios
• Will not engage interactively with mission personnel during iterations
• Use of blank and paint marking cartridges with various small arms

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be added.

– Operate assigned boat in a safe manner.

– Responsible for transporting rig crew and supplies to assigned locations in a timely manner.

– Cleans inside and outside of boat. Also keeps boat painted.

– Checks for water in bilge and keeps bilge clean of oil.

– Checks oil level in engines and clutches; checks engine for oil, water and fuel leaks; and checks all lighting on boat.

– Checks motor support bracket, alternator belts, stuffing box (grease and pack as needed), and the condition of all hoses and clamps.

– Skipper must start and run all boats assigned to the rig daily.

– Skipper ensures that a spare wheel and shaft are available for the boat. These must be kept on the boat, not on the rig.

– Checks exhaust manifolds for leaks and checks air breathers, and changes oil and filters every 100 hours. Includes fuel filters.

– Picks up boat every month and checks bottom.

– Changes oil in clutch every 200 hours and cleans strainer screen every week.

Engineer Wanted
Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON) located in Cocodrie, Louisiana and operates a 116 ft. oceanographic research vessel which is a member of the Universities National Oceanographic Laboratory System (UNOLS), is currently accepting applications for an Engineer aboard the R/V Pelican. Duties and responsibilities are as follows: Engineer ensures safe and efficient operation of the power plants (Caterpillar 3412’s and 3306’s) on LUMCON’s vessels. Ensures the safe operation of vessels as it pertains to the mechanical functions required to perform all normal research operations. Ensures equipment is in top condition at all times. Responsible for the performance of preventive maintenance and repairs on all equipment including cranes, winches, HVAC systems, pumps etc.
Provides standby for engine room emergencies while ship is underway, makes regular inspections of engine room and ability to transfer fuel and ballast water. Runs mains and generators. Performs maintenance projects and watchstanding. Operate cranes, winches and deck equipment as necessary and participates in deployment and recovery of moorings, trawls, dredges, mud gabs, mud cores, AUVs, ROVs, CTD rosettes, sediment traps, etc. Performs related tasks as necessary. Assists with deck and small boat operations as assigned.
U.S.C.G. Third Assistant Engineer or DDE (Designated Duty Engineer) 1,000 hp or higher license required. Must display proficiency in operating and maintaining a variety of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. Must exhibit some welding and cutting skills. Must have excellent communication and organizational skills. Must be able to work with diverse groups of people. Must be able to lift up to 65 lbs. Ability to step up three feet. Ability to work in hazardous marine environment and confine spaces. Ability to work up to three weeks continuously at sea between port calls. Applicant should have ability to work with a computerized maintenance system.
