I know this is a commercial pitch, but at least it provides an opportunity for a different sort of discussion (I know China’s relationship with the rest of the world is important, but I just can’t get fired up about it). Here in Europe there are a bunch of guys who make models of offshore vessels and meet every couple of years to show off their work. Sometimes the models have taken longer to build than the actual ships. Over the years I have been peripherally involved so they have sent me photos. Here is the UT720 Pacific Brigand, photographed by the builder Udo Herkenrath. A while ago there were plans available for this ship which allowed several model makers to build it while it was still in the North Sea, and on one occasion at the request of a modelling club in the UK Midlands, I went aboard it while it was in Aberdeen and took photographs of the detail of the ship.
