Second Mate upgrade to 1600 GT Master

Old thread, I’m aware, but I came across this and thought of a question I’d like the answer to for future reference:

Does sea time for STCW officer endorsements have any tonnage requirements outside those of the national license?

In a case like this, 2M Unlimited crossing over to Master 1,600 with minimal time over 100 GRT but significant time under 100 GRT, can he use that time as mate under 100 GRT to go towards his 1,080 days as OICNW for Master?
