Acc to new instructions from High Priest temple @Jughead should create a new thread but He did not.
Once the new thread has been created as an offspring of the old one , I am expecting the old to be closed and locked either in auto mode or manually by one of the " magnificent" FOUR.
I have followed the instruction, created
new follow up thread ,identified all branches of the old thread , added links to them ( 3) and guess what happened?
None of the 3 has been closed & and locked .
The old thread could be closed by the user who created the follow up new thread but ordinary user has no rights to do it.
It all started with " politics" a forbiden item as per FAQ rules , then it morphed into thread AGE issue ( not mentioned in the rules) and finally it has metastasized into some monstrocity wrapped in vagueness .
I think wait and see & watch option is the best but this circus here reminds me of the saying " give sb enough rope and he will hang himself" .
The thing is the rope was not given .
It was taken .

Solved with respect to daily use. That one must agree.
But the problem was the use in maritime press, publications, investigations, reports and by maritime professionals etc, etc.
For example Dr. SAL latest video regarding Solong v/s Stena. He still insists it was an ALLISION. I am pretty certain He consulted some serious dudes what terminology shall be used before so adamantly insisting it was an ALLISION referring to MAIB interim report where I could not find a word ALLISION. At least in my pdf copy downloaded ASAP when published.
Hence I am not sure about closure and surely the topic will be revisited.

A search for 'forums close old threads" will give results showing various discussions and debates. There are no specific instructions.
When an old thread is revived it gets “bumped” and shows up a 'recent discussion. If the most recent post is moved to create new topic, that old thread still shows up in the feed as “recent”. That old thread can’t be put back in the feed where it belongs so it’s just closed.
If an old thread is not 'bumped" there’s no reason to close it.

There’s been complaints that the moderation here is driven by a hidden agenda. Apparently that issue has been addressed, at least in part, by using a automated (algorithm) Discourse feature.
It doesn’t make any sense to take the time to close all the old threads, unless there’s some feature to do it with batch processing it’d have to be done one at time, very time consuming.
Edit: Also is it all threads that get closed after 24hrs of inactivity or just the old threads?
On second thought it makes more sense to leave the old threads open. If someone posts on an old thread and nobody else posts for 24 hrs it gets closed. On the other hand if other people are interested and respond the thread stays open until it dies out again.

Added: I am not complaining. Only posting my observations. Am extremely glad other Moderators kicked into action allowing @Kennebec_Captain to catch a breath and chop some wood to warm his house. Surely I do not want Him to freeze while tackling Forum moderation issues. Had to use old threads to explain what I mean while testing . Wonder what happened to good old and tested banner warning user while he tries to revive old thread and leaving the decision to proceed or not to the individual user and his judgement. It was a good banner.
Sincerely hope I will not be labelled as “too combative” as having even 10 year ban is frightening enough as I am sure I will not live that long.

Do not know why this fine thread has been neglected by this noble community for such a long time.
I have been carefully watching some interesting things going on in this theme of censorship and quality control since the release from gcaptain prison of our famous @ombugge , who seems to be doing great and I have even noticed some

Nobody knows by whom and nobody knows if it is true .

So be it as i can live with that . Have lived with worse systems so i can live with that. Never mind.

According to the old system /rules the “offender “ could appeal the verdict having been able to read the rules and get familiar with them and basis this knowledge determine validity of his appeal.
With this JUDGE DREAD called Discourse AI in power ,how the average Joe offender can appeal the verdict without knowing the rules applied by Discourse AI .
