World’s first DP pipelay vessel. This unique ship still continues to lead the offshore industry. On her anniversary we will launch our book ‘Lorelay 40, an inside story’. The book is the result of two years of intense collaboration with my co-authors Anne de Groot and Remko Luyten. Many contributions from Lorelay engineers and crew have been incorporated in this exceptional project. Wencke Boerrigter of Polestar Publishing has completed printing and binding. The iconic 1987 Lorelay photo on a mirror-like North Sea pond adorns the back cover.

Steel-cutting commences for second Axis Offshore unit
On 9 January 2014 Axis Offshore and Cosco Shipyard celebrated the steel-cutting ceremony for its second semi-submersible newbuild accommodation unit, Axis Vega, which is due to be delivered around year-end 2015.

Axis Offshore first announced that it was building a second semi-submersible flotel in September 2013. The first unit for the company, Axis Nova, has been under construction at Cosco Shipyard since August 2012 and will be delivered in the first quarter of 2015.

They are aimed at the demand for modern flotels able to operate in the harsh environment of the North Sea, especially in the Norwegian and UK sector, with an emphasis on high safety standards and comfortable solutions for offshore accommodation for up to 500 people.
Axis Nova and Axis Vega are based on the GM500A design, in compliance with Norwegian rules. The flotels have 11.5m operational air gap, dynamic positioning to DP3 standard as well as mooring, to enable year-round operability in the North Sea.
Axis Offshore’s CEO, Jesper Kragh Andresen, said: “The responses and growing interest we are receiving from clients reinforce our belief in the specification of our newbuildings. While we see strong potential in the North Sea, we remain keen to expand our presence in other regions.”OSJ
