The Romanian maritime search and rescue (SAR) organisation ARSVOM is modernizing its fleet with several newbuildings from Estonian shipyard Baltic Workboats. May 11th two brand new units passed Kiel on their long delivery voyage to Constanta, the 22m ARES (top) and the 19m PHOENIX (below). Their route will take them upstream the Rhine and Main rivers, then along the Main-Danube canal, and finally downstream the Danube river to the Black Sea:

> The RS 175 is a first milestone in achieving the ambition of a “green” rescue craft. This is one step on the way to a greener fleet and maritime industry; A 100% emission-free rescue vessel, which is at the same time able to deliver emergency services according to today’s parameters for search and rescue work at sea (speed, range and towing power).
>
> - A wonderful gift
> The RS 175 is smart because it has technology that can assist the crew in making good decisions. Sustainable because it reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
> - The idea was to produce a zero-emission vessel, unfortunately we cannot do that with today’s technology and fuel savings. But in anticipation of this, we believe it is our duty - as a responsible social actor - to develop as sustainable a lifeboat as possible, with the solutions we currently have at our disposal, says secretary general of the Rescue Company, Grete Herlofson.
>
> The rescue society wants to use the RS 175 to test out and further develop new technology in close collaboration with and through challenging the supplier industry and partners, with the aim of finding “greener” and sustainable emergency response solutions for the future.
>
> - In order to invest in the rescue service of the future, we must have brave donors on the team. This is simply a wonderful gift from the Tom Wilhelmsen Foundation, says Herlofson.
>
> Opportunities will be given to conduct short separate interviews with the representative of the donor, president of the Rescue Society Jon Rysst and general secretary Grete Herlofson in connection with the event.

Two new state-of-the-art response vessels designed by Incat Crowther are now in operation for the Port Authority of NSW. The vessels, named BURRA and GIRAWAA, are designed to play a pivotal role in major on-water incidents, including firefighting operations both on and from the water. BURRA and GIRAWAA have the ability to pump 16,000 litres of sea water per minute - equivalent to the capacity of four large fire engines.Capable of travelling in shallow water, the vessels can travel at speeds of up to 27 knots and have the ability to turn 365 degrees in 60 metres, while travelling at 20 knots.
