# MSC...Assimilated Rank for Military Base Privileges

None of that (base privileges and housing) was brought up in April, 2008 NEO. It was explained that the card they issued - I still have mine - was to ensure proper treatment per Geneva Convention rules in case of capture (not kidding. That’s what they said!) by a hostile navy.

I’m shocked considering how much time you’d be spending on a military base. I was at a Navy Hospital for almost two years before I got my medical discharge. The job the assigned me to had me work with civilian employees. They knew all about it. One was really looking forward to her next promotion because it meant that she would be the same as an Ensign (O-1) and be able to go to the Officer’s Club.
