More Cables Cut

WHAT???

1ft = 0.3048 mtrs last time I checked

Correct me if I am wrong but is Dr. Sal video clip showing depths in feet?
I do not think so. Default values on Marine Traffic are in mtrs I suppose.

0140 LT 2nd mate watch at such time there is no much power requirement on a bulker and I do not think that S. G. was engaged in this conditions with fixed propeller.

You start power locally in bosun store fwd. To get the stopper off one does not need much light, likewise to open the manual break so the gear can move freely for lowering with gear engaged. And at such depth one must pay out the chain using gear.

WHO knows what the OOW was busy with. Surely they did not keep a look out to save OT.

One person would need input regarding pos and depth not to screw this ops so either it was via UKF bow to bridge - then OOW was involved or the perpetrator had access via phone or laptop to Marine Traffic . I do not know abt Wi-Fi coverage in this area probably not, so the next possibility is phone with satellite link what is highly unlikely.

Therefore I suspect bridge team was involved.

That is speculation of course as honestly I do not believe such a precise strike can be done at such depth of 90 or abt mtrs.
Something would break and the chain link would be first to go with the loss of anchor.

Nice blown up picture of the damaged fluke would tell viewers a lot if this story is another BS or not.

And by the way this label SHADOW FLEET the warmongers from Splash and other news outlets use not only to wipe their asses but mouths too. The name of this hype and game is to close Baltic for Russians and provoke them to do sth stupid knowing they can not possibly withstand the joint NATO response.

Chairman @ombugge and other shipmasters : WHAT DO YOU SEE???

The BS from Lloyd List " analyst" who peddled story about surveillance equipment in big suitcases stored on monkey deck and needing so much power it caused blackouts is being debunked by the police

[The Police: No Spying Equipment on Eagle S | Sweden Herald](https://swedenherald.com/article/seven-from-the-crew-on-eagletour, -s-get-travel-ban)

Needles to say some local tabloids informing the public in this disinformation campaign have gone even further coloring the BS and claiming the vessel was : SATURATED with spying equipment.

Is this individual a liar , agent provocateur, paid CIA agent, chief Lloyds List propagandist or simply misinformed person spreading lies for a living???

Her BS was quoted by a great majority of news outlets including the big maritime news providers , tv stns, utubers and even Dr. Sal was praising her for excellent and reliable reporting.

Another vessel suspected in the latest Baltic cable cut incident:

The Silver Dania is owned by Norwegian company Fjord Shipping.

You can see her here:

PS> How long before the Finnlady will be “pulled over” too? She crossed the Latvian cable at abt, the same time as the Vezhen and Silver Dania.
Oh, she didn’t come from Russia, so no problem there.

Chairman Bugge are You a russophile? Can hardly believe that. Or You enjoy simply teasing the russophobic crowds here.

You really are a brave Viking. :joy:

Can You pls check FM Your side as I hear the crew of this vessel was russian.

Well the russian crew story appeared first in Ukrainian News outlets.

I see it has now appeared in Reuters

https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/norway-police-arrest-ship-suspicion-baltic-sea-cable-damage-2025-01-31/

Now I am a bit confused. Russia is gasping under 1 mln sanctions imposed by US and EU .Russian sportsman are banned from participating in sports events unless they do not bear the russian flag, Bolshoy Ballet is banned in the west, russian poetry and literature is banned too, some crewing joints refuse to employ russian seafarers . How come then , that Norwegian company under such circumstances is not following the sanctioning crowds .
How one can explain that ?? Beats me really.

Although it would be unfair not to mention that Americans are buying russian figure skating champions to train their kids, what has been just revealed when reports about midair collision took place and do not refuse russian sizable supplies of uranium .
Politics is a bitch is it not ?

I don’t know for sure, but could it be that the crew on this ship is ethnic Russian but Baltic state nationals. I know that quite a lot serving on Norwegian (NIS) ships are just that.

It is OK .Do not take my comments too seriously . Little bit of sarcasm and laugh will not harm
Have a good day and weekend

Dr.Sal is spot on and Bulgarian capt story explaining the incident is the Mother of BS of immense proportions .

When one puts to sea with a ship like that then soon after pilot is off or before when weather is bad the bosun , AB are making sure that: 1 gear is engaged, 2 manual breake is tight, 3 gillotine or other safety is firmly secured - this is for good weather.

If bad weather is expected or for the long ocean haul /leg the 4th line of defence is set like wires or additional chain stoppers.

Rarely though the non millenial bosun will ask if captain whishes to put a cement box/filling in a chain hose pipe making the securing of the anchor complete and robust .

In this particular case and in mild weather/sea conditions manual breake , engaged gear and gillotine stopper were just fine. For those knowing their crew is substandard master takes the con and sends oow or chief officer to SUPERVISE the work as described above and report in person to master on the bridge.

From smp.no (Google translation):
The Norwegian-owned ship Silver Dania will be able to depart from Tromsø as early as Friday evening, the police wrote in a press release.
– Troms Police District has now completed a number of investigative steps and secured what we see as necessary in view of the request from Latvia. The investigation will continue, but we see no reason why the ship needs to remain in Tromsø any longer, writes the Troms police.
– No findings have been made that link the ship to the incident, explains police attorney Ronny Jørgensen in the Troms Police District.

The ship was brought ashore with the assistance of the coast guard vessel KV Bison n an operation led by the police last night. The crew and shipping company cooperated with the Norwegian authorities and participated voluntarily.
The ship was brought in based on a legal request from Latvian authorities, following suspicion that the ship had been involved in serious damage to a fiber cable in the Baltic Sea between Latvia and Sweden.

The crew on board were all Russian citizens.
The head of the Bergen shipping company Silver Sea and owner of the ship, Tormod Fossmark, stated earlier Friday that he was surprised that the ship was brought in by the police.
– We have done nothing wrong, he told Fiskeribladet .

Summary. The vessel is apprehended /stopped on Norvegian territorial waters or EEZ at the request of the country Latvia on witch territorial or EEZ the illigal act has not been committed .

Meantime the country Sweden on whose teritorial or EEZ waters the illegal act was commited , has not requested the seizure of the suspect ship but it has cooperated with Latvia and used it’s clout to prompt/convince Norway to interrupt the innocent passage of the said vessel.

WTF is going on and what kind of circuss is on display here . Checking the UNCLOS back and forth and even upside down and am wondering what next.

Meantime it looks clear why USA is not willing to embrace UNCLOS as it has been proven recently by newly acquired by NATO Chihuahua dogs, that indeed UNCLOS is a piece of paper that can only be used in syberian gulags for wiping frozen guards asses.
This is a clown world.

Russian is under Western sanctions due to the Ukraine war. Russia is clear engaging in asymmetric war against the west: cable cutting, GPS spoofing, hacking, election interference, facilitating the arrival of undesirable migrants, etc etc etc.

Why on earth are ships that are owned, financed, operated, or insured by companies in NATO member countries engaged in trade with Russia?

So what do You think?? Dr.Sal changing his mind basis Maritime Executive " excellent" stories. Wonder why suddenly He forgot about anchor gear brake, the one that is responsible for holding the perpendicular part of the chain + the weight of the anchor while paying out or heaving .
The story of negligence may not hold water.
Anybody with the opinion? as I see "WHAT DO YOU SEE " item is not atracting much attention. . It is not a trap but genuine question.

Looks like one picture fits all.

The problem with this particular pic. is , that it does not even reflect the situation described in the original Maritime Executive article regarding Eagle S.

But who cares. Baltic public buys that and Baltic sea can be closed by navies and detentions may continue unfettered . Mission "manipulation " accomplished as long as " may have " formula is used.

2022 Anchor-Drag Incident May Have Severed Another Baltic Subsea Cable

Done do “doughnuts” anywhere, you may be suspected of spying, sabotage, or doing something else bad:

Arrange crew change in remote places web there are bad weather should be avoided. Somebody may watch AIS and get suspicious.

The captain of a Hong Kong-registered container ship Newnew Polar Bear has appeared in court after being accused of damaging critical infrastructure in the Baltic Sea nearly two years ago, Splash reports.

43-years old master was taken into custody in Hong Kong and brought before a local court on Thursday. He faces a charge of criminal damage, along with two additional counts related to violations of local maritime laws.

Prosecutors allege that master is responsible for significant damage to the Balticconnector — a 77-kilometer natural gas pipeline linking Finland and Estonia — as well as a nearby telecommunications cable. The incident occurred in October 2023 within Finland’s Exclusive Economic Zone.

Finnish investigators confirmed that the pipeline was damaged by an external mechanical force. A Newnew Polar Bear’s anchor was discovered near the rupture site, and forensic analysis found matching paint traces on the anchor and the pipeline.

The court proceedings in Hong Kong are ongoing.
