Mariner Outreach System

Something rarely talked about on here. In light of the USCG NMC backlog, I would assume that those of us with applications in that sign up for the Mariner Outreach System would go to the top of the stack whereas those of us that do not sign up for the Mariner Outreach System would go to the bottom of the stack. Any thoughts? Not judging.

Has MARAD ever used the Mariner Outreach System?

I have no idea. Probably not.

Why would they do that? It’s a MARAD program, there’s nothing for the Coast Guard in doing that. The resources spent sorting the applications are better spent processing applications. And if it’s to encourage participation, I doubt it would be a double-secret program that no one knows about. I would find it very hard to believe they are doing this.

Well, considering my MOS file in MARAD’s database hasn’t been updated from USCG/NMC files in over 21 years and they think I’m still a 2nd Mate on tankers… they don’t exactly communicate with each other. No, there’s no incentive when it comes to application processing time, just the potential to get a really sweet paying gig on a MARAD ship if things really hit the fan.

Haha, fair enough! I was thinking more along the lines of some super patriotic West Virginia civilian or USCG rescue swimmer or Maritime response candidate waiting on orders to go train picking and choosing lol

the less involved the better is my modus operendi !!

Hard to know if it actually changes priority, but I enrolled anyway just so nothing slips through the cracks. Feels better than just waiting in the dark lol.
