This is why we need to look at how to bring the US maritime industry into the 21st-century. The waivers have shown that there is cargo to be hauled, but not enough ships to haul it.
This is why I developed the Maritime Infrastructure Resilience Act or MIRA proposal. We need a pragmatic solution to solve the major problems facing the US merchant fleet and foster growth, create jobs, and regain some maritime sovereignty. I had a discussion with US Maritime Action on the MIRA explaining in depth what it is and how it could change the industry.
