Licensing diagram

I was talking with a friend a couple of months ago about upgrading from 3M Unlimited to 1600T master. He was pointing at a drawing that looked like a mind-map sort of thing. You could follow the path along to different licenses, and see where you could go from one point to another using different routes. Anyone seen anything like that?

In particular, I’m trying to track down a route from 500T Master + Master of Towing > 1600T Master.

thanks!

46 CFR 11.404 is where it is located.

For Deck Officer Structure you can look at CFR 46 § 11.403:

http://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/text-idx?c=ecfr&SID=882849a04a1a35ab96555374d320ae79&rgn=div8&view=text&node=46:1.0.1.2.11.4.7.3&idno=46

And for Engineering Officers it’s CFR 46 § 11.505:

http://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/text-idx?c=ecfr&SID=882849a04a1a35ab96555374d320ae79&rgn=div8&view=text&node=46:1.0.1.2.11.5.7.5&idno=46

Hope that helps.

“a mind-map sort of thing” = Flow Chart or Decision Path or …(but I do like mind map)

The diagram is only intended to show the overall hierarchy and structure. The specific requirements for any license are in the SPECIFIC regulatioins for that license.

The requirements for Master 1600 are in 46 CFR 11.412 . If it doesn’t mention a specific “crossover” from another license, you have to show meeting the total requirements in the regulation, although any experience that meets those requirements that you used before for another license can be “re-used” (subject to recency requirements) The only specified “crossover” for Master 1600 is from 2nd Mate. So you need to meet the total requirements.

Wow… I thought the license flow chart for engineers was convoluted, then I saw the Deck officer flow chart. What a cluster*uck.
