I remember when the size of the ship’s library was a deciding factor in accepting a contract. We were more educated back then as we just had to read what was available. It was a liberal education 😀 I still remain a fan of Loius L’Amour from those days. I also learned a bit about quantum mechanic from the reading available. Great times ---

First time I ever read Two Years Before the Mast was thanks to a well stocked ship’s library. Folks hate Kerouac today but many ships I’ve been on kept several of his and other Beat Generation novelist’s works on hand as well. Many of them spent time in the Merchant Marine. ---
