Hello everyone,

I’m a Master Mariner with many years of experience at sea, including tanker and offshore operations.

Over the years, I repeatedly faced the same practical problem onboard: keeping track of tasks, notes, reminders, paperwork and crew information across different places.

Notes, paper sheets, stickers, checklists and information kept in your head can easily become difficult to manage.

So I started building a small tool for myself.

That project became MARION — Marine Operations Platform.

The idea is to reduce unnecessary paperwork and scattered information and bring everyday marine operations into one digital environment.

What is currently working

Task Management

  • Create task cards
  • Plan and organize tasks
  • Track task status
  • Print daily task lists as PDF
  • Archive completed and cancelled tasks
  • Review previous tasks and operational history

Crew Management

  • Current onboard crew list
  • Personnel scheduled to join the vessel
  • Personnel who have signed off
  • Date-based crew planning
  • Automatic crew status and rotation tracking

MARION is currently a Windows/PC application.

The next major step is the server-side part, allowing MARION to work locally across multiple computers onboard a vessel through the vessel’s internal network.

This is still an early-stage project, and I am developing it based on real operational experience.

I’m sharing it here because I would really like to get feedback from other mariners and maritime professionals.

The crew list can’t be a static list. It has to produce a yellow fever vaccination list for Brazil, a list of personal effects for India and so on.

Thank you for the feedback! There is already a Documents tab in the seafarer’s profile, although it’s still fairly basic at this stage.

MARION is still under development, which is exactly why I decided to release it at an early stage — I want to collect feedback on what should be improved, removed, or added, and then implement those ideas.

With practical advice and different perspectives from people in the industry, I believe the application can become much more useful and complete.
