Can anyone provide overall insight on Hornbeck - HOS crew change policy? Do they cover all costs: Flights, mileage, or crew shuttle from airport to boat and back?
Trying to get some insight to the company for a potential position as 3rd mate on one of their vessels?
If memory serves; they give you $1000 a month for travel and you work out all the logistics yourself. Crews will generally work together on ride shares or rental car swaps with their reliefs.
Depending how far you are living from Fourchon will be your travel stipend. You are responsible to get to the work location. If you are going to gov fleet, all is covered. I had a crew chat and coordinated with others, divided the minivan rental cost from MSY to Fourchon. When leaving took the minivan back to MSY from the crew coming in. It was a juggling act for sure, did it for 5 years. Enjoy your time in HOS and maneuver as much as you can, Fourchon is a good training ground.
$1,000 is the max for US workers - per hitch. And yes, you are responsible for your own travel arrangements, including hotel, if needed. Stipend are pre-tax, so it is actually more like $800. Overseas, not surprisingly, is different: 100% covered flights and door to door pay (there is also a slight bump in pay). As above, Gov. fleet has their own travel deal. Hope this helps.
