I’ve been talking this over with a few colleagues. With Masters being offered up to $100,000 a month and $50,000 per passage, we kept coming back to what happens if conditions change and the captain calls it off.

If the bonus depends on getting through, that’s a lot of money riding on a safety decision.

I’ve tried to work through those concerns in this article. Anyone here dealt with similar terms? What happened when a transit had to wait?

> With tanker freight exceeding a million dollars a day and Masters commanding extraordinary transit bonuses, Hormuz has exposed an uncomfortable reality.

There has been some inflation since the 1980s. I was offered USD 10k to take command on a tanker for a trip from Dubai Anchorage to Kharge Island and back to Khor Fakkan Anchorage.

PS: I did not take the offer. (I had a young family at the time)
