Sounds like to me your hypothetically on the fast track to a 12 step program. Ya just pretty much threw it all away, atleast for the next few years anyways. USCG is zero tolerance. ---

Understood, but I wassnt smoking on the boat or in the USA even. I was in a foreign country where weed was legal and could prove it. Your probably right though. ---

They don’t test for where you smoke, or if you had a scrip from haight ashbury. You either pop positive or you don’t. There’s really no tough luck involved. It’s your choice. If you did test positive you are done with boats for a while. If you are asking a real hypothetical dont go to Amsterdam or anywhere else that has that sort of lifestyle. ---

I thought it wasn’t legal, but tolerated in the Netherlands. The bigger question, I would guess would be if one were partaking of the sham “medical marijuana” that certain states offer. Of course, I would imagine that the USCG, being a Federal entity, would not look kindly on any positive testing for the substance. Not anything that I ever had to worry about. ---

That was a poor choice of words. I haven’t been to Amsterdam I can pass a drug test anytime any where. I was just curious. I surprised though at the replies condemning me instantly. I guess none of you guys had a toke when you were younger. ---

A couple of years ago, all DOT regulated employers were required to test 50% of employees. Because of lower positive tests some industries were allowed lower test rates. From the DOT web site: Federal Aviation Administration [FAA] 25% Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration [FMCSA] 50% Federal Railroad Administration [FRA] 25% Federal Transit Administration [FTA] 25% Pipeline & Hazardous Materials Safety Administration [PHMSA] 25% United States Coast Guard [USCG] (now with the Dept. of Homeland Security) 50% Truck drivers and mariners continued to have high positive test results and were NOT allowed to lower the percentage of employees tested.
