# Hello - New

Hello All,

I am new to this forum and very excited to learn from you all!

I am not a professional mariner but have always been extremely interested in your profession and I am doing research to gain more insight into what it is you do. I do not want to impose or be a nuisance so please let me know what forums are best for my newbie questions.

As such, I have a few starter questions (mostly directed towards container ships):

- What does it mean to “send an individual to the house” ?
- Where could I read about firefighting on container ships?
- I live in Austin, Texas-- what are some good spots to see ships in person in Texas?
- How do they keep track of the containers-- bar code scanners or number values on the containers?

Again, I appreciate your help and please direct me to the best place for my novice questions.
