The deer were filmed on her aunt’s property, where they continued playing with the ball for several minutes.

We spent much of last summer sailing around Norway in our yacht, starting from Stavangar, and working our way North. We then sailed across to the Shetlands, and from there back to Denmark.

We saw a lot of jaw-dropping landscapes, met a lot of interesting people, did a lot of hiking – the Norse are so friendly and easy to get to know, especially the sailors. Best summer I’ve had in a long time.

What is the richest country in the world in 2025?

BEING RICH is not just about earning more. Prices differ between countries, and a modest salary can go further where things are cheaper. Working hours vary too: some places manage to generate high incomes with fewer hours of labour, leaving time for leisure. So which countries are truly rich?

To answer that we ranked 178 countries using three measures. The first is GDP per person at market exchange rates. It is simple and intuitive, and widely cited. But it ignores price differences between countries. The second measure adjusts incomes for these local costs (known as purchasing-power parity, or PPP). This offers a better guide to living standards but one that takes no account of leisure time: the share of people in work, and how long they work, varies by country. Our final yardstick accounts for both local prices and hours worked.

The three countries that top our lists are Switzerland, Singapore and Norway. In dollar terms Switzerland comes top, with average earnings above $100,000 last year. Singapore and Norway follow, at $90,700 and $86,800, respectively. But Switzerland is also one of the most expensive countries in the world, so its high salaries do not stretch very far. Adjusted for local costs, Singapore jumps ahead. And adjusted for hours worked, Norway takes first place, as it did last year, followed by Qatar and Denmark. America, the world’s biggest economy by GDP, ranks 4th, 7th and 6th on the three measures. Britain is placed 19th, 27th and 25th.

How countries’ ranking changes across measures can reflect social patterns. Those where few women are paid to work—such as Saudi Arabia and Turkey—rank higher on income per hour than on income alone, because earnings are concentrated among fewer people. Countries with unusually old or young populations also shift: in Italy, many people are retired; in Nigeria, many are not yet of working age. In both, a smaller working cohort supports a larger one.

Since last year the biggest overall climber was Guyana, which gained an average of 17 places across the rankings. An oil boom has lifted average incomes by more than 40% year on year. America rose by an average of 1.6 places, though its tariffs are an assault on its living standards.

Johan Bugge from Eidsvåg IL and Karoline Kyte from Førde IL won the Norwegian National Championships in uphill running this weekend.
The Norwegian Championship was added to the traditional race “Mefjellet Opp”, which is organized by Valldal IL every year. This is the second time the Norwegian Championship has been held in Valldal, the last time was in 2019.

Bugge from Romsdal crossed the finish line in 42.25, which was 32 seconds faster than Danish Jeppe Aaskov Pallesen in second place. Per-Christian Grieg (Varegg Fleridrett) came in third.

Kyte ran in 50.10 in solitary majesty, a full 4.27 ahead of second place Anita Lilleskare from BFG Bergen Running Club. The Førde runner’s time was also a new course record in “Mefjellet Opp”. The previous record was 50.49.
Third place went to Jo Shepherd from Gimle IF.

Mefjellet Opp is a mountain race in Norddal in Møre og Romsdal organized by Valldal IL .
The race was first organized in 2006 and has developed into a popular competition in the region. The race starts in the center of Fjørå and finishes at the top of Mefjellet
The course is 7 km long and has a total climb of approx. 1100 meters.

The surname Bugge is found more widely in Norway, Denmark, Germany and in some form in UK, US, South Afrika and Australia.

It is 14 years ago today sine the terrorist attacked on a Government office in Oslo and a summer camp for young people at Utøya. 77 people died that day because a right wing lunatic didn’t like their political leaning:

It has now been 14 years since the far-right terrorist Anders Behring Breivik killed 69 and injured 33 people at the AUF summer camp on Utøya.
Breivik was also behind a bomb attack on the government district in Oslo, which killed eight people. Nine were also seriously injured.

Missing Dutchman found alive after two days search:

A 60-year-old man has been found alive after being missing for two days in Trollstigen. The Dutch man was reported missing by his family when he failed to return from a mountain hike on Thursday afternoon.
According to the police, the man appears to be injured, but is communicating with volunteer crews from the Red Cross.
