I suspect the inquiry will result in court proceedings against the other vessel. The ferry was constructed of Kauri. A timber no longer available that was popular for boatbuilding because of its straight grain. A beautiful timber to work with, it has a pleasant smell and when using a plane you can set the blade so fine you can almost see through the waste. Many of the old wooden buildings in San Francisco are built of NZ Kauri . It hardens with age and is very durable.
One surviving tree is between 1250 and 2500 years old and is estimated to have 516.7 cu metres of timber (18250 cu ft)
