Emailing your apps to REC

Just wondering what the email experience has been like? How long after your email did you start to see status updates? I am applying for a simple upgrade without any testing. This is my first time emailing Vs snail mail and walk in

It has been my experience, once they have everything they need, it takes 3 weeks or less. I have never done the snail-mail application. Scanning and e-mailing is the way to go. I have done 4 applications since getting my license and will be submitting a 5th within a month. I am very satisfied. I have heard many nightmares from the snail mail route.

I keep getting delivery failure notices when trying to email Oakland REC. Last time I snail mailed I started getting updates within a few days

I got the same thing my last time sending mine to Miami. I also just sent it directly to the NMC explaining the issue and they forwarded it to Miami. You must ensure your attachment does not exceed the MBs, I think 10 MBs, and that it is not scanned over 300 DPI, on larger packets I have had to use 75 DPI.

I must be doing something wrong. Even at 72 dpi, my medical form alone is almost 10mb. After adding app, twic pics and see service I’m at 20mb

My last application was 34 pages at 75 DPI and it was only 4.4 MBs. Are you saving it as a PDF file?

Yeah I am saving it pdf document. Mine is 23 pages and 20mb??

Their system will not accept an email over 10mb and you will get the failure notice. I had to split my application package in to 2 separate emails less than 10mb each. I attached each required item as a separate PDF within the same email it does not need to be one PDF document. Just make sure to put the required information in the subject line of both emails. I put email 1of 2 and 2 of 2 also in the subject line.

I did the something similar, I one time sent one in that was 4 parts long. Actually you need to keep your email around 9.5 MB as i sent one that was 9.7 and it got kicked back to me as to big.

I got my stuff back as quick as 14 days after emailing. It’s the only way to go.

You can fax it also

Yeah I may do that. I have tried 3 times now and it keeps coming back. Did a 3 part email and only one made it through. All were under 9.5mb each

Again, I had a 34 pager and after scanning it ended up to be only 4.4 MBs, this included the medical form, maybe you can change the settings on your scanner and all will be right with the world.

OK I figured it out. I scanned all documents to ocr and it shrunk it down to 4mb.

Glad to hear it finally worked out. It should not be too long to have the REC forward it on to NMC.

Yeah, keep it under 10 mb. I had a lot of Navy documents to send in as mine was an original. I had to “shrink” my file by adjusting the resolution before I could get it out. Once I sent it out, Baltimore processed it pretty fast and the NMC sent my approved to test letter about a week later. Pretty cool all in all.

If you scan into PDF, there is a command to reduce the file size. It ends up as an Adobe 5.0 document and reduces the file size significantly.

Several years ago my app was 55 pages long, and I needed to submit as two separate file attachments.

A major benefit of emailing the app is so when they loose something, you have it right on your computer and can email the missing part, assuming you have internet access where you are.

The only down side to emailing is that it is not send over a secure connection. Haven’t heard of any problems because of this.

So to day I received my unlimited Chiefs license. I emailed all docs to the REC on 12/10 and they forwarded it to NMC on 12/27. NMC reported it was issued on 1/10 and now here 1/12 it arrived. Even though it took the REC a while, the NMC was quick and on top of everything. A much better experience than I had 2 years ago.

Congrats Chief ! ! !

Congratulations!

The .mil mail server REC uses for large paper intensive applications is a joke. An embarrassment in 2013. DropBox and G Drive are free but they can’t seem to get a pay for play server with enough space to handle their own requested documentation.
