Through their sewage treatment system to the holding tank(s). Either to be delivered ashore in some major port of call, or pumped overboard in open water, where allowed.
PS: I have seen one or two of these on the pier next to a cruise ship once in a while:
FYI: Motto: “Slamsug. Vi suger alt”. (Freely translated: “Slugs sucker. We suck everything”
Doubt if they could handle even one day of sh*t from a large cruise ship, let alone when two ships with over 6K pax and 2K crew each are alongside together:
Isn’t that 3-strory biuilding at the end of the pier “Molo Brew” where you occasionally invite others for a beer? Just you and 5,000 tourons off the passenger ships…
Some cruise passengers may stop by for a beer or two, but most are head right past, on their way to walk the streets of Ålesund, or to catch busses, boats or “trains”:
Yes, ocean liners were just that, people haulers across oceans. I would NOT want to be on a cruise ship from NY to England but would not hesitate to ride an ocean liner, if it didn’t cost more that a 1st class plane ticket. Bad weather is not a friend to cruise ships as history has shown.
