I am curently an AB on an osv. I had interest in getting my QMED prior to obtaining my AB but could not get into a whiper position. I am now in the spot of trying to find a way to obtain a QMED without having to restart my seatime all over as a whiper. I have heard from the engineers onboard my vessel that there is a crossover test that was put in place by coast guard not to long ago but can not find any info to verify this. I have also heard that sea school in Bayou La Batre Alabama offers a QMED course, but I can not get an answer wether or not you get your QMED just by attending the course or if sea time as a whiper is still needed. If anyone has any insight into this or any other options, it would be greatly appreciated.
