I am a captain on a casino boat but looks like the end is in site. I have a 1600 ton master oceans with STCW, ARPA, GMDSS, TWIC, VSO. I was a captain on OSV’s from 79 to 99 and an oil spill response vessel from 99 to 06. Now looks like I am going to have to back offshore soon. Any advise on getting hired would really help. Thanks
suck it up and take a 3rd captain aka 2nd mate/adpo job, get your DP certificate and finish your career
Maybe no one will say it, but the age will be a huge factor. Reduce your expectations.
no problem doing that thanks

Explain please?
My experience has been that age means shit, it’s how many years you have running boats in your field.
That’s not true at all,if they need someone and you have experience and of course pass the physical age will not be a factor
Just being on a Casino boat is going to earn you the ‘suck hind tit’ syndrome. There were too many of the IDIOTS who got their licenses on them without going past the seabouy or out of the cofferdam and then went offshore and proved that they had no idea of what is going on.
I worked for 2 of them at one point and time and decided to go back offshore. The person that hired me knew me from 25 years ago and told me that I would have to run 3rd and get evaluated…I asked him why and then stated 'Am I paying for all of the idiots that got their license from gaming vessels", he just smiled and said YES!
If you were good at what you did before the casino gig and apply yourself when you get offshore, you should have no problem.
Weren’t working for Horseshoe were you???
Age is of no concern, as long as you can pass the physicals…
Good Luck!

I disagree. There are several mariners into their 60s who have been hired recently.
