FYI, this company owns the ex AGNES CANDIES which was one of their old Bender built vessels that was part of the DMT or maybe Phoenix fleet I believe? It is now named the AMC AMBASSADOR!

Pay for master was not the greatest but it isn’t a Large OSV either.

Damn they modified the hell outta that thang. If you hadn’t of said it was an old Candies boat I wouldn’t have recognized it. I’ve worked on those Bender boats before and they weren’t nothing to write home about. I remember seeing a couple of these being upgraded at BallingHer shipyard year before last. Oceaneering had picked them up from DMT or Surf or whomever. I think it was the old Topaz or Sapphire unless that’s one I them in that picture.

That was the “DMT Topaz” and ex “Agnes Candies”

The one you probably saw Fraq was the old Kelli Ann Candies converted to the DMT Saphire, which is now the Ocean Patriot.

none of them were good choices to be subsea platforms but they obviously still have work enough. The OCEAN PATRIOT was a big mistake however for Oceaneering and I know they know it. How many million did they dump into that vessel? $80M is what I heard and for what when they were able to buy the purpose built CADE CANDIES outright and ready to go for less!

Yes sir I heard the some thing, that they could have built a new boat for what they spent trying to put the Ocean Patriot back into service. Hopefully they won’t make that mistake again.

All of those Bender hull’s were absolute bare bones when they were built. Kind of like going to the dealership and ordering a new pickup with no A/C, a A.M. radio and a vinyl bench seat. They did have a few good points, they are some of the few OSV’s that are not flat bottom like a barge, so they did ride good. Plus they had a lot of H.P. for there size and would D.P. in a hurricane, but that is about all I can say good about them. For a small diving operation they are probably fine but very limited deck space for anything to serious. I would be willing to bet this company got the old Topaz for scrap metal price, so they probably didn’t get hurt to bad buying it. I am sure they spent a good chunk putting it back into shape.
